Audience

School garden teams of 2 or more people interested in starting or enhancing an educational garden

Location and Cost Options

* Life Lab's Garden Classroom on the UC Santa Cruz Campus:  $150/participant View all scheduled upcoming Garden Classroom workshops or * Your school site:  $1,500/day plus travel for 2 trainers.  25 participant maximum.

Workshop Description

In this one-day workshop you’ll learn how to take the first steps toward creating, restoring, or enhancing a living laboratory.  Topics will include garden design ideas, soil preparation, planting, watering, and pest management, as well as building a support network, linking to academic content standards, and planning for a year-round harvest.   Schools may opt to add a second workshop day to apply these skills directly at their site.

Participants will take home

* California School Garden Network 's Creating Gardens for Learning . * A detailed action plan for creating or enhancing their garden. * A list of educational garden elements from the Life Lab Garden Classroom. * A booklet of relevant handouts, all of which can be downloaded at the California School Garden Network website.
