Highlight of June 2023

 Life Lab’s programs are in full swing at summer school in the Pajaro Valley Unified School District!

Each week, our 2023 summer school program in PVUSD focuses on a different country and culture. At Amesti Elementary School 6th to 8th grade students are learning about native plants, indigenous cultures, and medicinal uses of plants, including white sage and mugwort. 

"The children were excited to learn that mugwort leaves were placed under people’s pillows to ward off bad dreams,” according to Life Lab Garden Instructor, Emiko Stewart. 

Meanwhile, younger students practiced their math skills as they measured ingredients for a cooking lesson. Children made fruit skewers and then mixed chia seeds with water and watched how they expanded in agua fresca.
