Digging In: The UCSC Gardening Internship Has Begun!

January 2026

The UCSC Garden Classroom Gardening Internship Program has officially begun! This hands-on internship gives students the opportunity to build practical gardening skills in an educational garden while helping care for and support the Life Lab Garden Classroom.

Already, interns have been busy learning about compost by flipping piles, managing temperature changes, sifting finished compost, and putting it straight to use by planting radish seeds. They’ve also taken on plenty of weeding and pruning while learning how these essential tasks keep the garden healthy and productive.

In addition to caring for garden beds, chickens, and the orchard, interns work in a beautiful, kid-centered garden that supports hands-on learning and stewardship. We’re pleased to welcome this group and look forward to the growth ahead.
