Life Lab

Life Lab cultivates children's love of learning, healthy food, and nature through garden-based education.

Thank you for your interest in Life Lab field trip programs!

The application window for the Fall 2020 & Winter 2021 field trip lottery will be April 9-16 (We will post an application link here before the application window opens).  Interested teachers will have that week to consider their dates and submit an application; after this period closes we will complete the lottery and assign dates. If the number of applicants is greater than the number of field trips we can offer, we will place any applicants not assigned a spot onto a wait list for the season for which they applied.

As part of the application process, teachers will be asked for dates they cannot do within the field trip season; please have your school calendar with you when you complete the application. Once the lottery is complete we will not be able to switch dates.

Our field trip lottery system is designed to balance opportunities for Santa Cruz County children and schools, particularly higher-need schools, with our desire to continue welcoming children from outside our county. Half of our field trip spots will be assigned to Santa Cruz County schools with 30% or more free or reduced lunch eligibility among their students; a further forty percent of our spots will be assigned to Santa Cruz County Schools; and ten percent of spots will be open to classes from any location.

If you would like to receive email notifications about field trip registration, please contact to put your email address on our list.

If you have questions please contact Cara Wild-Sundell, Garden Programs Manager, by calling 831-459-4035 or sending an email.

Terry had another awesome two weeks at Life Lab. I think he learns more there than in any other part of his year. School is great, but he’s passionate (and often dogmatic) about what he learns there.
