Thank you for your interest in Life Lab field trip programs!
The application period for Spring 2020 field trips will open in September, in our new field trip lottery registration system. To register CLICK HERE. The open application window will be September 16-23. Interested teachers have one week to consider their dates and submit an application; after this period closes we will complete the lottery and assign dates. If the number of applicants is greater than the number of field trips we can offer, we will place any applicants not assigned a spot onto a wait list for the season for which they applied.
As part of the application process, teachers will be asked for dates they cannot do within the field trip season; please have your school calendar with you when you complete the application. Once the lottery is complete we will not be able to switch dates.
Our program has become very popular over the past few years, and demand often exceeds our capacity. You may already have experienced challenges reserving field trip dates, because they filled so quickly. We feel that a first-come, first-served registration system is no longer working well, even with the registration tiers we have had in place the past few years, so we have been working hard on a brand new field trip lottery system.
The field trip lottery system will continue to balance opportunities for Santa Cruz County children and schools, particularly higher-need schools, with our desire to continue welcoming children from outside our county. Half of our field trip spots will be assigned to Santa Cruz County schools with 30% or more free or reduced lunch eligibility among their students; a further forty percent of our spots will be assigned to Santa Cruz County Schools; and ten percent of spots will be open to classes from any location.
